On Tuesday, the DPW was busy pretreating problematic areas throughout the borough with salt.
"Our snow operations are all done with a staff of eight borough employees. We don't use any contractors. This includes plowing and de-icing of all borough streets, borough municipal parking lots, and borough-owned and maintained sidewalks, which front municipal properties, said Dicksen.

Fanwood also sent out a few reminders for residents:
- Residents must remove ALL vehicles from the roadway to allow the DPW to effectively and efficiently perform snow removal operations.
- Residents should ensure that they do NOT shovel or snow blow their snow back into the roadway after it has been plowed as this creates a hazardous condition.
- Borough Code 259-22 states that residents shall remove all snow and ice from any sidewalk in front of their property within 12 hours of daylight after the snow has fallen or formed.
"We will work around the clock if needed and take breaks as needed. The safety of our employees is very important," said Dicksen.
In Scotch Plains, Mayor Al Smith said the township "is well prepared for any weather event that may hit the Township area."
"The plows have been added to the trucks, the website has been updated with communication and each of our first responders (police, fire and rescue squad) are prepared as well. The public works department will be prepared to salt and plow when the need arises," said Smith.

State officials said they have more than 400 pieces of road equipment available to make the roads safe, even though fewer people are taking to the roads because of the coronavirus outbreak.
AccuWeather is saying the system could be the "most significant winter storm in several years," one that could potentially become highly impactful and disruptive as the first round of coronavirus vaccines continue to be shipped around the country.
AccuWeather is warning of major disruptions to travel and even travel shutdowns, as well as shipping delays, school closings and power outages from this "blockbuster storm," – even though a number of New Jersey school districts have said they'll opt to go remote instead of closing.
