SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ — QuickChek is proposing a convenience store and a gas station on the current Jade Isle restaurant site in Scotch Plains.

The preliminary site plans were discussed at Scotch Plains' first Downtown Redevelopment Committee meeting of the year on Feb. 10.

Before anything can happen with the proposed plan, the Planning Board first needs to complete a preliminary investigation report on whether or not the property meets the criteria as an "area in need of redevelopment," according to Thomas Strowe, township project coordinator for redevelopment.

At its Feb. 16 meeting, the Township Council authorized the Planning Board to begin their investigation.

"If the property is declared an 'area in need of redevelopment' then the Township can begin negotiations over the specifics of the redevelopment plan," said Strowe.
