Retired Colonel to Discuss Vietnam and JFK at Scotch Plains Library

Fifty years after the death of John F. Kennedy, the Scotch Plains Public Library’s series of events to commemorate his legacy concludes on Monday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. Colonel Paul L. Miles, U.S. Army (retired) will discuss The “New Frontier” in Vietnam: John F. Kennedy’s Policy and Strategy. 

Col. Miles taught military and diplomatic history at Princeton University from 1999 to 2013. In 2004 he was named one of the first two recipients of Princeton’s Phi Beta Kappa Award for Excellence in Teaching. He was also the first holder of the Norman Tomlinson Fellowship in War and Society.

During his military service Col. Miles commanded an engineer company at Cam Ranh Bay, for which he was awarded the Wheeler Medal of the Society of American Military Engineers; served as aide de camp to the chief of staff of the Army; and was a member of the U.S. military delegation to the Paris Conference on Vietnam. His military decorations include four awards of the Legion of Merit and the Bronze Star.
