Scotch Plains, Fanwood Girls Sell Sweets For Dorian-Hit Bahamas

The 5 girls, ages 7 and 8, held a bake sale on Sunday where they raised $340 to help the people of the Bahamas after Hurricane Dorian hit.

SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ — Five young girls from Fanwood and Scotch Plains raised $340 by selling sweets and lemonade on Sunday for the people of the Bahamas in need after Hurricane Dorian hit.

Amanda Bailey, 7, of Fanwood, Liana Benoit, 8, of Scotch Plains, Lillian Dinegar, 7, of Fanwood, Rochelle Lindemann, 7, Fanwood, and Rhaena Lindemann, 8, of Fanwood sold cupcakes, cookies, brownies, banana bread and guava lemonade on Sept. 8.

"Our girls showed such kindness and compassion, we're very proud and inspired by them," the girls' parents said.

The girls set the prices, helped set up the table and helped each customer, telling them that they were doing this sale to help the people of the Bahamas.

Benoit created a poster and even put some of the neighborhood's boys to work distributing flyers they created to get more customers.

The girls raised a total of $340, which was split equally and donated between World Central Kitchen and the Abaco Relief Fund.
