SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ — After decades in business, Wallis Stationary will be closing its doors for good due to the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic.

Alex Desai has owned the newsstand, which sold cigars, greeting cards, newspapers, coffee and more, for more than 25 years. Although he added, the business itself had been there long before him. He said since sometime in the 1900s.

Business began slowing down prior to the pandemic but once COVID was in full swing that marked the end for the business.

"After COVID hit we lost a lot of business. People are not spending money. And taxes are going up too. It is too expensive to do business," said Desai.

Desai said he is selling everything inside the store including merchandise and equipment. Anyone interested can stop by the store at 441 Park Ave. in Scotch Plains or call the store at 908-322-6266 or Desai at 908-803-8877.
