Scotch Plains Runner Named Academic All-American

Patrick Bell of Scotch Plains was named to the 2017 Academic All-American Division III Track & Field/Cross Country Team.

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ — Recent Muhlenberg College graduate Patrick Bell of Scotch Plains was named to the 2017 Academic All-American Division III Track & Field/Cross Country Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). He was a third-team selection.

A finance major and double minor in economics and Spanish, Bell made a big impact in his first year running track for the Mules.

He — along with twin brother Andrew Bell — earned a bronze medal by finishing third with the 4x400 relay team at Centennial Conference Outdoor Championships. Patrick Bell also placed fourth in the open 400.

Indoors, both Bell brothers placed fifth with the 4x800 relay. On Muhlenberg's all-time performance lists, Patrick ranks seventh in the 400 (50.28) and ninth with the 4x400 (3:23.48).

Both Bell brothers were four-year members of the Muhlenberg men's soccer team and graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. They made the Dean's List every semester and received the Paul M. White '27 Business Award in 2016.
