Storms Push Scotch Plains Middle School Graduations To Wednesday

SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ — Both of the Scotch Plains-Fanwood middle school graduations have been moved from Tuesday to Wednesday due to impending storms.

Park Middle School's graduation will be held at the Scotch Plains Fanwood High School at 667 Westfield Rd. at 9:30 a.m. Terrill Middle School's graduation will be held at the high school as well at 3 p.m.

Scotch Plains Police sent out an alert to drivers warning them to expect a large volume of vehicle and pedestrian traffic starting at 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Parking restrictions in the school area have been suspended for the entire day. Drivers should use extreme caution when traveling in the area of the high school. Commuters traveling this area should plan an alternate route, said police.

The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather outlook on Monday morning throughout the state, saying that stronger thunderstorms may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts through Tuesday evening.

Here is the forecast:

Tuesday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11 a.m., then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 77. Northwest wind 7 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tuesday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly before 8 p.m. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 54. Northwest wind around 7 mph.
