Stolen Car Chase In Scotch Plains Ends With Crash, Arrest

A car was also burglarized over Memorial Day weekend, according to the Scotch Plains Police blotter.

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ — The driver of a stolen car led Scotch Plains Police on a chase before it crashed on Memorial Day.

On May 31, Scotch Plains Patrolman Scott Leyden spotted a 2010 Hyundai Sonata that was reported stolen out of Linden, according to the Scotch Plains Police blotter.

The car was being driven by Darnell A. Hunter-Perello, 20, of Plainfield, said police.

Scotch Plains Police chased the stolen car into Plainfield before stopping the chase. A short time later the car crashed and Hunter-Perello was arrested by Plainfield Police, said Scotch Plains police.

Hunter-Perello was charged with second-degree eluding, third-degree receiving stolen property, fourth-degree resisting arrest and fourth-degree criminal mischief. He was processed and taken to the Union County Jail.

On May 24: A construction company working in the area of Route 22 reported damage to one of their vehicles.

On May 26: Bryant L. Jacobs, 32, of Plainfield was arrested on an active warrant out of
Mountainside during a motor vehicle stop conducted by Patrolman Mike Smolinski. Jacobs was taken to headquarters and processed.

On May 26: A resident on Farley Avenue reported someone fraudulently applied for unemployment benefits in their name.

On May 27: A resident on Forepaugh Avenue reported someone fraudulently applied for unemployment benefits in their name.

On May 30: A resident in the 400 block of Farley Avenue reported their vehicle burglarized during the overnight hours.

On May 31: Bradley W. Dessin, 22, of Union was arrested on an active warrant out of Union during a motor vehicle accident investigation conducted by Patrolman Zack VonLangen. Dessin was taken to headquarters and processed.
