What Should Replace The Old Scotch Hills Pharmacy?
We have some ideas — and they don't include a nail salon or Chinese food restaurant.

It's been five years since Scotch Hills Pharmacy moved from Mountain Avenue to its current location on E. 2nd Street. So why hasn't a new business taken its spot yet?
The bold red sign still displays the Scotch Hills name and the doors, embellished with credit card decals, haven't been touched. The lights have been off for years and we're not sure if a soul has even been inside since the last employee closed its doors.
While the location isn't quite in the center of town (don't even get us started on our suggestions there), it can be the perfect spot to open a new business. But please, no more nail salons and Chinese food takeout restaurants.

We think Scotch Plains could use something—okay, a lot of things—so we're sharing our wish list with you.
Here are the top 5 businesses we'd love to see replace the abandoned Scotch Hills Pharmacy:

- Coffee shop: With a pizzeria and deli just feet away, we don't necessarily need more food in this little shopping center. A quaint cafe, with good coffee and plenty of table space to sip, would be the sweetest addition to town. Perhaps even with a few croissants?
- Boutique: Let's be honest, shopping is limited in Scotch Plains. Unless you're heading into Westfield or taking a trip to the mall, you're really out of options to find something. This location would be perfect for a small boutique that sells unique clothing, jewelry and home goods.
- Healthy bistro: A salad and sandwich shop with healthier eating options would be lovely! We're picturing a little outdoor seating area too. How cute.
- Bookstore: You can't deny that there's something special about browsing through a good bookstore. An eclectic shop to explore new reads that hosts a monthly book club? We're in.
- Smoothie/juice shop: There's not quite enough space for a full-blown restaurant and we've reached our town limit on unhealthy takeout, so a quick on-the-go shop with smoothies and acai bowls might just be what this area needs.
