SECAUCUS, NJ — No, Cuatro Amigos in Secaucus is not closed. Well, it sort of is. The restaurant, located just off Plaza Center on Rt. 3, is still under the same ownership. It just has a new name and menu.
Cuatro Amigos has been reinvented as a Latin bistro, and it now has a new name: Bembe.
Much of the Mexican-themed decor inside still remains, but they have new signage out front and a new menu, featuring pan-Latin fare from the Caribbean and South America.

Cuatro Amigos, or now, Bembe, is still owned by the same owners as Bareli's, the longstanding restaurant next door, which for years has enjoyed overwhelmingly positive online reviews (people love the live piano on weekend nights) and a loyal following. Bareli's is known as the spot in the Meadowlands area for a power business lunch or romantic, expensive Saturday night dinner.
The location next door, however, has not been so lucky: Cuatro Amigos ... and a Bottle of Tequila was only open for about a year when the owners decided to change direction and reopen as a Latin bistro and lounge. There is still a full bar inside. Before that, it was Dhoom, a rarely-visited, pricey Indian restaurant. Several other restaurants existed there before that.
