Enclosed Sports Field Coming Next To Secaucus Krauszer's

A fully enclosed turf playing field is coming next to the Krauszer's on Meadowlands Parkway, meant for wrestling, soccer and cheerleading.

SECAUCUS, NJ — Last winter, Secaucus Mayor Mike Gonnelli first revealed to Patch that the town wants to open a second recreation center, originally floated for the end of Millridge Road.

Now, those plans have morphed somewhat: A new playground will instead be built on the hill at the end of Millridge Road and a fully enclosed turf playing field is coming next to the Krauszer's on Meadowlands Parkway.

The town is still in the planning stages and the enclosed playing fields probably won't open until the end of 2019/early 2020, Gonnelli said. It will be located in the long-empty lot right next to the Krauszer's and bank. These will be turf fields and it will be meant for wrestling practice, Secaucus' nationally-ranked cheerleading program, volleyball as well as peewee soccer and football.

"It will really be there for whoever wants it," said Secaucus business administrator Gary Jeffas. There are many adult sports leagues in town, also.

It will not be the length of an entire football field, the mayor cautioned. However, the playing area will be available for youth and adult sports throughout all four seasons, as it will be fully enclosed. There will be heating and air conditioning, indoor restrooms and a concession stand, and the town will also build parking spaces.

That lot next to Krauszer's is technically owned by Hartz Mountain, which leased it to the town of Secaucus for $1 per year for 99 years.

The new enclosed playing fields will be partially paid for by a $500,000 grant from Hudson County.
