How To Vote In Secaucus This Fall; Ballot Box Coming To Town Hall

SECAUCUS, NJ — This summer, Gov. Murphy ordered that the Nov. 3 presidential election be nearly entirely vote by mail in New Jersey, due to COVID fears.

This led to many New Jersey voters being concerned their vote would be lost, tampered with or inaccurately counted.

To address that, many New Jersey towns are installing ballot boxes, where voters can drop their votes. Secaucus will be getting its own ballot drop box and the town is expecting it to come any day now.

"We are waiting on the delivery," said Secaucus town administrator Gary Jeffas. "It will be outside of Town Hall at the front entrance, just outside the police station and under constant surveillance."

Ballot drop boxes are collected and returned directly to the Hudson County Board of Elections office, located in Jersey City. Ballots dropped in that box are only handled by designated Board of Elections representatives.

Expect to start getting your ballots mailed to you soon. All registered voters can put their ballot in the drop box until 8 p.m. on Nov. 3.

You can also mail back your ballot, any time before Nov. 3 (ballots must be postmarked on or before November 3).

And if you do not want to mail in your mail-in ballot, you can also vote at your assigned place on Nov. 3, Election Day. But even then you will only be able to vote by paper ballot, not by machine. A limited number of machines will be available only for voters with a disability.

To participate in the election, residents must be registered to vote, and must do so before Tuesday, October 13, if not already registered. For the first time ever, residents can register to vote online. Learn more here: http://www.hudsoncountynj.org/...
