SECAUCUS, NJ — Like to kayak? Even though they are still recovering from losing their headquarters in a fire last weekend, Hackensack Riverkeeper announced their seasonal kayak rentals at Laurel Hill Park will resume May 30/31.

"With Governor Murphy’s new executive order allowing canoe and kayak rentals to resume, our plan is to open both of our Paddling Centers — Laurel Hill Park and Overpeck Park — next weekend, May 30-31," the Riverkeeper announced Wednesday.

The public can rent the boats at both locations to explore the Hackensack River.

They said they would have opened the kayak rentals on Memorial Day Weekend, were it not for the three-alarm fire, which broke out at about 5:30 p.m. last Saturday at their headquarters in Hackensack.

Hackensack Riverkeeper said they also plan to resume their eco-cruises in some form in June. These are guided boat tours of the Hackensack River; Capt. Bill Sheehan said the boats will be washed down with disinfectant after each use.
