Secaucus Girl Scouts Honored With National Award
"This is a very prestigious award and it's only given to one Girl Scout troop once in their lifetime," said Helen Allen, a troop leader.
SECAUCUS, NJ — The Secaucus Girl Scouts were honored this past June with a prestigious award given out by the national Girl Scout USA headquarters. The President's award is given out annually to a troop "whose exemplary service in support of delivering the Girl Scout Leadership Experience surpassed team goals."
"This is a very prestigious award and it's only given to one Girl Scout troop once in their lifetime," said Helen Allen, one of the leaders of the Secaucus Girl Scouts. "This year when we went to the awards dinner, we were very happy to find out we had won."
However, because the Secaucus Girl Scouts do not have an official Girl Scout "house" (they hold their meetings at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic church), the award will be placed at the Secaucus town museum, right by Buchmuller Park. Anyone in town is welcome to visit the Secaucus town museum and see the award. The museum is now open Thursday nights this summer whenever there is a free evening concert in Buchmuller Park — pop your head in! There is a lot of cool stuff in the town museum.

Also, if you notice those flowers blooming throughout Plaza Centre, those were planted earlier this spring by none other than the Secaucus Girl Scouts.
"If you see all those beautiful flowers blooming out of the flower pots, it was these young ladies who planted them back in May and now they're blooming," said Secaucus Councilman Tom Clancy, a big supporter of our local Girl Scouts.
