SECAUCUS, NJ — Hudson Regional, the Secaucus hospital, is begging patients to come back in for regular medical treatments and doctor's appointments. It's a refrain we're going to hear more and more from local hospitals and doctors' offices in the coming weeks, as they try to resume normal business operations.

“Everyone should know that it is safe to come to our ER. If you have concerning medical conditions or symptoms of stroke, uncontrolled diabetes or other potentially life-threatening conditions, don’t wait at home and risk further deterioration,” said Dr. Nizar Kifaieh, Hudson Regional's top doc and CEO said.

Indeed, many hospitals across the U.S. are reporting that patients are waiting too long at home with issues like diabetes and heart problems, due to fear of contracting coroanavirus in the hospital.

According to Dr. Kifaieh, the hospital has COVID-free independent areas of the ER and ICU, and a completely separate patient recovery floor for regular, non-COVID patients. He also said there is no crossover between the staff who treat COVID patients and those without the virus.

And Hudson Regional Hospital’s maternity ward has delivered 95 babies since March 1.

Hudson County resident Souyi Ma delivered her baby at Hudson Regional Hospital’s maternity ward on March 13.

“The only time I thought about the virus was when my husband's family and my family came to the hospital to see me and the new baby,” she said, in a quote provided by the hospital. “Overall my experience at the hospital was a good one and I personally did not feel like my stay was affected negatively by COVID.”

Hudson Regional Hospital will continue to operate its drive-through COVID-19 testing (by appointment only) in conjunction with Hudson County and Secaucus "until the need for this service in Hudson County subsides."

It is also conducting IgG antibody testing between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday – Friday, and between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The cost for those who come to their appointment without a prescription or insurance taken by the laboratory is $120 (collected at time of test). To make an appointment for either testing call: (201) 392-3100
