Secaucus Schools Get 23 Percent Increase In State Funding

All New Jersey school districts get state funding from Trenton, to supplement what is paid in local property taxes.

SECAUCUS, NJ — The Secaucus school district is slated to receive about $2.4 million from the state for the 2021-22 school year, as Gov. Phil Murphy released the proposed state funding allotments for New Jersey school districts this week.

This is a 23 percent increase over what Secaucus schools got for the 2020/21 school year. Secaucus is a very small school district. Secaucus schools will return to a hybrid schedule in early March.

However, some towns get much more state funding than others. Some districts are entirely funded by the state: New Brunswick public schools get $129 million from Trenton. Newark gets $915 million. Jersey City is getting $253 million.

Rutherford gets $2.8 million, similar to Secaucus. Lyndhurst is getting $3.1 million. Hoboken and Montclair will get $8 million. South Orange-Maplewood is getting $7 million.
