Tiger Woods Withdraws From Jersey City Golf Tournament

Woods competed in Jersey City Thursday, but a strained oblique forced him to withdrawal from The Northern Trust Friday morning.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — Tiger Woods was in Jersey City for less than 24 hours, competing in the 2019 Northern Trust Open at Liberty National before he had to withdraw due to an injury.

“Due to a mild oblique strain that led to pain and stiffness, I have to withdraw from the Northern Trust,” Woods said in a statement Friday. “I went for treatment early Friday morning, but unfortunately I’m still unable to compete ... I am hopeful I can compete next week at the BMW Championship.”

Woods was competing in the tournament alongside Brooks Koepka and other big names in the golf world. Woods played Thursday morning at Liberty National and — before his surprise announcement — he was next due to tee off shortly after 12 p.m. on Friday.
