The police blotter reports on crimes of the last week

On July 20, a TomTom GPS was removed from a car parked on Harrison Ct.

July 21 saw a BMX bicycle stolen from where it was parked in front of Pathmark on Valley St. The owner, a juvenile, was given a ride home to West 3rd St. by the SOPD.

On the following day, the SOPD collaborated with the South Orange Fire Dept., when a unit of Halsey Gardens had a fire. The building was evacuated until the fire was extinguished. One resident was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital by the South Orange Rescue Squad. There she was treated for smoke inhalation.

Also on July 22 came a report from a Riggs Pl. resident. After an overnight trip, she reported that her first-floor window unit air conditioner was on the ground. The window was open, but nothing was missing, and there's no evidence that anyone entered the house.

A Charlton Ave. resident reported a bike theft on July 24. His white Zigo bicycle was taken from his front porch, along with its front wheel, which the owner had removed. The bike is easy to identify, according to the owner, because it has a clamp on the front to hold a child's stroller.

On July 24, an employee of a local business, whose car was parked in Lot #4, reported that his passenger side window was broken, and a Garmin Navi GPS unit removed. In addition, the lock of the car's trunk was damaged.

Russell Thompson, a West Orange resident, was arrested on July 25 at approximately 2:45 am after he was discovered to be in possession of a controlled substance during a motor vehicle sto.

A Warren Ct. resident stated that sometime between July 24 and July 26, someone  entered her home via the front door. An Ipod is missing.

On July 26, at approximately 1:00 a.m., three residents walking along Meeker St. reported that three black males in their late teens robbed them at gun point. The victims stated that the drove a silver four-door Acura, last seen traveling east on Montrose Ave. from Meeker St. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.
