Domestic Abuse - Keeping It Real in South Orange NJ

Walking and moving around our beautiful town I always marvel at how nice it is. This weekend was the South Orange Annual Free Health Fair and even I sat down. enjoyed a wonderful fun eye screening and took a free PSA test. One of the tables I encountered was The Safe House, a domestic violence program. Yup a group no one wants to talk about but yeah its real even here. Not sure what it means here's a link to a video  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jx8NbcuasCQ  Or viewing what it means according to Wkipedia - Domestic violence, also known as domestic abuse, spousal abuse, battering, family violence, dating abuse, and intimate partner violence (IPV), is a pattern of behavior which involves the abuse by one partner against another in an intimate relationship such as marriage, cohabitation, dating or within the family. Domestic violence can take many forms, including physical aggression or assault (hitting, kicking, biting, shoving, restraining, slapping, throwing objects, battery), or threats thereof; sexual abuse; emotional abuse; controlling or domineering; intimidation; stalking; passive/covert abuse (e.g., neglect); and economic deprivation. Alcohol consumption and mental illness[4] can be co-morbid with abuse, and present additional challenges in eliminating domestic violence.
Reading the description makes you go wow. It also heightened the comments and request from the volunteer team at he tables this weekend for a few volunteers to join their team. They just want a few folks to volunteer and they stated you can work to your schedule in terms of call out hours.
In terms of duties I found this description Volunteers are needed to monitor domestic violence court cases, to work directly with clients to aid them with transportation, day care, etc., to distribute educational information in the community, and to speak out on the topic of domestic violence.

So there you go, if interested contact them at their hotline number 973 759 2154.
