JLMN Hosts Virtual Book Club - Tina Kelley Homelessness to Hope
JLMN Virtual Book Club Meeting is Honored To Host Poet and Journalist Tina Kelley Almost Home: Helping Kids Move from Homelessness to Hope
There are 1.6 million young people who are deemed homeless each year in North America. As we go on about our daily lives, that seems like an unbelievable number but it's real. Pulitzer Prize winning journalist and author Ms. Tina Kelley is bringing light to the subject via her book Almost Home: Helping Kids Move from Homelessness to Hope which provides a dramatic look into the lives of these children.
To aid this deeper introspection into homeless, the Junior League of Montclair-Newark (“JLMN”) will host a virtual book club meeting featuring author Ms. Tina Kelley as guest speaker this coming Thursday, Jan. 7 th at 7.30PM to discuss her book: Almost Home: Helping Kids Move from Homelessness to Hope. Tina Kelley is a journalist, poet, and author who is on the staff of Covenant House, where she co-authored “Almost Home: Helping Kids Move from Homelessness to Hope.” Ms. Kelley is also a 10+ year veteran of The New York Times. She shares a 2002 staff Pulitzer Prize for “Portraits of Grief” which featured profiles of victims of the attacks on September 11, 2001. Most recently Ms. Kelley received the 2018 Maplewood Literary Award and published her fourth book of poetry, “Rise Wildly.”

The JLMN is a supportive dedicated organization of women whose mission is to improve the community through trained volunteers. Their reach is magnified by being part of the international Association of Junior League International - AJLI. Moving youth from homelessness to home has always been a key focus for the local Junior League Montclair-Newark and this book addresses practical issues that local and national groups can use to help address and reduce this situation dramatically because it provides practical suggestions, opportunities for dialog, action and advocacy.
