Kids 13 Pockets a New License, At Last

Village Cellar renews its liquor license through June 2012

It hasn't served a drink in years, but Village Cellar has a new liquor license, after a delay at the state level.

The restaurant's inactive Plenary Retail Consumption License, known as a "pocket license," was renewed on Monday night, by the Village Alcoholic Beverage Board. The license was approved at the local level, but delayed by the state. The new license expires June 2012.

Kids 13, Inc., which did business as Village Cellar, received its second pocket license renewal by the board at a meeting that followed the trustees meeting. The Alcoholic Beverage Board has the same membership as the board of trustees.

The restaurant, located at 19 Valley St., next to Toro Loco, has been vacant for several years. At Monday's meeting, Village President Douglas Newman noted the building is now bank-owned, though the former owner holds the liquor license. The license is "a valuable asset," said Newman explaining it can be sold or used.

Before doing business as Village Cellar, the restaurant was known as Stuft Shirt. Stuft Shirt is remembered so fondly by many residents that it has a page on Facebook.
