When New Jersey’s only professional sports team takes the ice for the 2015-16 opening season on Friday, there will be one question on many fans’ minds.

Will the NJ Devils have a new captain?

Recently, Devils Coach John Hynes alluded that naming a new team captain is a decision that may not be made when the puck drops.

“Every day you get closer, but is it imminent? It’s tough to say,” Hynes said. “It’s been an ongoing discussion. It’s not a necessity for us to have one. It doesn’t mean that we won’t have one come Friday, but it’s something that we want to talk through.”

Fans had plenty to say about their own choices via social media comments.

“I’d wait, but if you pick one, Andy Greene is a good choice,” one wrote.

“Greene or Henrique. But wouldn’t be mad if there isn’t one,” wrote one fan.

“Henrique. The future,” another declared.

“Can we get Scott Stevens to put the skates back on?” another asked.

“Mistake #1 - team needs on ice leadership,” one fan warned. “By not naming a ‘C’ you are implying that no one is worthy of the position.”
