Robbery, Shooting of Seton Hall Students Lead to Man's Arrest 1 Year Later

Newark resident is the second person implicated in 2012 incident at South Orange Avenue apartment.

A Newark man was arrested last week in connection with the 2012 robbery and assault of two Seton Hall University students, South Orange Police said.

Kaiyri Bennett, 24, was charged last Thursday with robbery and conspiracy after detectives found him in the area of Salem Street and South Orange Avenue in Newark.

Bennett is the second person implicated in the May 8, 2012 incident when two SHU students were assaulted with a handgun and one was shot in the arm inside a South Orange Avenue apartment, police said.

Joseph Fowler, 20, a former SHU student, was arrested several days after the robbery.

Bennett was remanded to Essex County Jail pending arraignment. His bail was set by Jonathan Rosenbluth at $100,000.
