See How Expensive It Is To Live In South Orange
Newly released list shows the average property tax bill and percentage increase.
SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - New Jersey boasts the highest property taxes in the nation and it seems as if they are on the rise every year. New data released this week from the state Department of Community Affairs shares the average property tax bill per town. And while rose at a much slower rate in 2018 than they did the year before, that may be cold comfort when it comes time to write a quarterly check.
Between 2017 and 2018, the average homeowner's tax bill rose to $8,767, an increase of less than 1 percent –an improvement over the 2016 hike of 2.3 percent. It was lower than the 2 percent cap former Gov. Chris Christie put into effect in 2011, according to the analysis.
In South Orange, the average tax bill was $18,354. This represents a 2.68 percent tax increase. Officials note that this is just an average, individual homes will pay differently based off of assessed valuation per property.
