Seth Boyden Raises the Roof for Outdoor Learning Center (PHOTOS)

A gala event on Feb. 23 at Orange Lawn Tennis Club raised $15,000 for new playground equipment and outdoor classroom experiences.

The Seth Boyden Demonstration School community is feeling pretty jazzed about a recent night of auctioning, dining and dancing that netted the PTA $15,000 toward the school's planned Outdoor Learning Center.

The event, held on Feb. 23 at the Orange Lawn Tennis Club, was chaired by "the Caryns" — Caryn Emmons and Caryn Rosenberg.

"The party was elegant, the bar was a blast, the food was excellent and the baskets were downright outrageous," wrote PTA member Patti Killian De Luca in an email to the Seth Boyden community (De Luca herself worked the event).

Others who lent a hand during the evening included: Scott Adamson, Tai Schahar, Nadine Kerstan, Maggie Tuohy, Anna Herbst, Peri Smilow, Lisa Murray, Sonya and Anthony Artis, Tricia Fogg, Chamie Graff, Eliza Minot, Mary Mann, Amy Higer, Michael Paris, Bennie Larrier, Tia Swanson, Patti Killian, Dan Fisher, Joel Janney, Josh Rosenberg, AJ DeLuca, Lance Emmons, Judtih Wolochow, Amy Jo Curran, Barbara Rosen and Scott Sinkler.

Caryn Rosenberg also thanked the Outdoor Learning Center Committee, Principal Mark Quiles, the teaching community at Seth Boyden (particularly Jen Rollins for coordinating teacher raffles), and Jason Usdin for providing music during cocktails.

The event was attended by local luminaries such as Assemblywoman Mila Jasey, Board of Education President Beth Daugherty, Board of Ed member Sandra Karriem, Maplewood Township Committeewoman India Larrier, Maplewood Democratic Committee Vice Chair Garnet Hall, and Maplewood Republican Club Vice Chair Art Christensen — who is also a Seth Boyden graduate (Class of '52).

"Our kids are so lucky to have such committed, talented and tireless parents in our community," De Luca wrote.
