On the 7th of February 2014 the 22. Olympic Winter Games will begin in Sochi at the Black Sea. The Russian holiday metropolis experiences a a hotel construction boom as never before. For the sporting spectacle approximately 50,000 hotel rooms will be available – with additionally 12,000 rooms on cruise ships, which are anchoring at the paradise Black Sea coast.
Sochi officials say that the city’s hotels are 97% complete on the eve of the Olympics. There are reports of rooms without light bulbs or doorknobs. There are stories about unfinished hotels without lobbies or working elevators or running water. There are anecdotes from people who’ve checked into their rooms, only to find them occupied by stray dogs or construction workers napping in between shifts.
But given the nightmare travel stories rolling in from reporters in Sochi, that 3% difference goes a long, long way. Take a look because the reports are seemingly negative but hopefully for athletes and all participants things get better.
Outside it all looks good but inside it seems not all is well. For folks use to 5 start accommodations, this has got to be a shock to the senses. Listen to this... “Someone has been sleeping in my bed!” wailed a distraught journalist, finally checking into his Sochi hotel room after a long journey only to find the bed already slept in, presumably by construction workers who were still rushing to complete the rest of the hotel.
