South Orange Fire Chief Retires

South Orange Fire Chief Jeff Markey gave a speech during a Board of Trustees meeting, Monday, to congratulate three Firefighters who earned promotions.

John Shoemaker was promoted to Fire Chief, Peter Caughlin was promoted to Deputy Chief and John Denvir was promoted to Captain.

“Thank you for your leadership and what you've done to bring in the kind of budget stabilization that people expect and for your leadership through very challenging times with the Fire Department,” Village President Alex Torpey said to Chief Markey.

“We have an amazing community of people who work for this town, everyone works so hard and so well together, everyone is on the same team due in part to your leadership,” he added. “Best of luck to you in your retirement and congratulations to all the folks we were able to promote tonight and we look forward to working with you and the rest of the department.”
