South Orange-Maplewood School Calendar 2017-18: First Day Of School, Vacations, Conferences

The first day of school in South Orange-Maplewood is September 6 for grades K-7 and 9 and September 7 for grades 8 and 10-12. Feel free to mark it on your calendar as one of the most dreaded days of the year for students and teachers — and feel free not to feel guilty about marking it as one of your favorites. The South Orange-Maplewood School District has released its 2017-2018 calendar for public schools.

The calendar includes important dates such as winter and spring vacations, religious holidays, federal holidays, early dismissals and parent-teacher conferences.

• 8/28 - 8/31: New Staff Orientation

September

• 9/4: Labor Day
• 9/5: All Teachers Report, Staff Development Day
• 9/6: First Day for Grades K-7 and 9
• 9/7: First Day for Grades 8 and 10-12
• 9/21 - 9/22: No School (Rosh Hashanah)

November

• 11/7: No School for Students (Staff Development Day)
• 11/9 - 11/1o: No School (NJEA Convention)
• 11/22: Half Day (Thanksgiving Recess)
• 11/23 - 11/24: No School (Thanksgiving Recess)
• 11/29 - 11/30: Half Day for Elementary Students and Staff (Evening Conference)

December

• 12/1: Half Day for Elementary Students (Afternoon Conference)
• 12/25 - 12/29: No School (Holiday Recess)

January

• 1/1: No School (New Year’s Day Holiday)
• 1/15: No School (MLK Day)

February

• 2/16 - 2/19: No School (Winter Recess)
