South Orange Police Arrest on Thefts, Warrants

Newark residents, other suspects arrested in shoplifting, theft cases.

Police said Naim Stranger, 39, of Newark, was arrested at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 26, after being observed shoplifting from Pathmark supermarket on Valley Street. He was apprehended after attempting to leave the scene in a motor vehicle.

Lloyd Spencer, 54, of Newark, was arrested Jan. 25 at 3:45 p.m. after an outstanding warrant from the Essex County Sheriff’s office was discovered during a traffic stop on South Orange Avenue.

Kenny Trotsky, 51, of Morristown and Theresa Soroka, 58, of Newark, were arrested Jan. 26 at a NJ Transit station after police discovered outstanding warrants.

Kyle Morris, 25, of Newark, was arrested Jan. 25 at 1 a.m. after he was stopped on Irvington Avenue for a motor vehicle violation. An outstanding warrant from Linden was discovered leading to the arrest.

Ashley Marketplace & Cafe reported a shoplifting incident at 12:15 on Jan. 25, where a black male in his 40’s took about $100 worth of meat from the grocery and fled the store. The matter is being investigated.

A Newark resident said she parked her Chevy van on South Orange Street and left it running while entering a store at 3:15 p.m. on Jan. 23. When she returned 15 minutes later, her purse had been stolen.

The foreman of a construction site on Third Street reported that elevator wiring and sprinkler clamps were removed by an unknown person on Jan. 22nd.

A South Orange resident and university student reported that while walking home on Scotland Road near Raymond Avenue she was robbed of her purse and tote bag by three unknown black males on Jan. 22. Police stopped a number of individuals fitting the description, but got no matches. She described the suspects as all wearing dark clothing and one wearing khaki pants.

Allan Garcia, 19, of Middlesex, was arrested on driving under the influence charges, after being stopped on Valley Street in a motor vehicle at 2 a.m. on Jan. 22.

A resident of Overhill Road reported his 2009 Honda Pilot was stolen on Jan. 21 at 7:55 p.m. while he was warming up his car in an open garage with the keys in the ignition.

Shaquan Hayward, 28, of Newark, was arrested in connection with a burglary at East Clark Street on Jan. 18 at 1 a.m. Police say the suspect was arrested in Orange after getting into a struggle with the homeowner and fleeing the scene.

Atiya Bell, 29, of Newark, was arrested on Jan. 15 at 7:15 p.m. on a motor vehicle violation. Police discovered an outstanding arrest warrant from the city of East Orange during the stop.

The arrest of a suspect is not considered evidence of guilt until proven in a court of law.
