South Orange Remembers Chris Faughnan
A New Waterland playground was renamed for the 9/11 victim
As soccer season begins in earnest, the New Waterlands fields are covered with players clad in bright jerseys. Parents and coaches unload snacks and uniforms from laden minivans, while younger siblings crawl on the "caterpillar," a piece of play equipment near the field flagpole.
That part of the park is named for South Orange resident Christopher Faughnan, who died on September 11, 2001 in the World Trade Center. A 37-year-old trader at Cantor Fitzgerald, Faughnan was married to Cathy Faughnan. Together they had daughters Siena and Juliet, and a son named Liam. Faughnan was a familiar figure in South Orange, especially on the sidelines of soccer games, where he cheered on his daughters.
South Orange remembers Christopher Faughnan.
