South Orange Comingles in Toters Old or New
Both the green and new blue toters can be used
South Orange residents making the change to in July can use the green or grey toters most residents already own, or they can purchase new blue toters. Village Administrator Barry Lewis clarified this policy at Monday's Board of Trustees meeting, noting that there has been some confusion among residents about this issue.
With the Village shifting to single-stream reycling, where all recycling is picked up together, unsorted, on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month, new blue toters are available and have been advertised in The Gaslight and a mailer that was sent to homes.
However, said Lewis, the other toters are acceptable. Trustee Nancy Gould asked if residents can use the toters they already own. "Yes," said Lewis, "If you have a toter that was issued by the Village, you can continue to use it."

Residents who need a new toter should either purchase one from the recycling hauler or purchase a similar one elsewhere.
In addition, residents can expect that recycling will be collected regularly, twice each month, except during inclement weather. When that happens, said Lewis, residents can expect to see their recycling collected the following business day.
