South Orange Summer Camps Still Have Spaces

The South Orange Department of Recreation and Cultural Affairs is sponsoring a variety of camps for children this summer! For complete detail and registration information, click on the associated program links.

Cool Rocket/Science Camp
In this fun-filled one-week camp, children explore the science of flight, construct unique paper airplanes and learn to build their own model rocket for launch! This program, for children ages 6 to 11, will be held at the Baird in South Orange. Four sessions are offered:

• July 23-27, 1:00-5:00 pm
• July 30-August 3, 1:00-5:00 pm
• August 6-10, 1:00-5:00 pm
• August 13-17, 9:00 am-1:00 pm

Fee: $180/week.

Cougar Baseball Camp
Cougar Baseball Camp, for children ages 7 to 14,  will not only focus on the basic fundamentals of baseball, but instill the methods to improve and hone a player's skills. Each camper will be exposed to proper throwing mechanics, defensive techniques, fundamentals of the swing, mental aspects of the game, base running, pitching, catching and/or position play, sportsmanship and rules. Three one-week sessions will be offered this summer in Meadowland Park.

• June 25-29, 9:00 am-3:00 pm
• July 9-13, 9:00 am-3:00 pm
• July 16-20, 9:00 am-3:00 pm

Fee: $300 ($560 for 2 weeks and $800 for 3 weeks)

Oben Flag Football Camp
Through USA Football and its FUNdamentals system, Oben Flag Football introduces children ages 5-13 to the sport by teaching basic skills in a fun and energetic environment. USA Football-certified coaches use a series of drills to show passing, catching and running skills in a non-contact setting. All skills and drills ensure children learn in an age-appropriate manner and in an ideal atmosphere for fun. This program will take place on Floods Hill in Meadowland Park.

• Monday, July 30- to Thursday, Aug.2 (Friday, Aug. 3 rain date).

Fee: $245

Multi-Sports Camps
The U.S. Sports Institute Multi-Sports camp will be held in Meadowland Park Aug. 13 to 17. Details and registration information at www.USSportsInstitute.com. Camps are offered for three age groups:

• Sport Squirts Camp, ages 3 to 5, from 4:30 to 5:30 pm. Fee: $75
• Ages 5-14 half-day camp, 9 am to 12:30 pm. Fee: $145
• Ages 5-14 half-day camp, 1:00-4:00 pm. Fee: $115
• Ages 6-14 full-day camp, 9:00 am-4:00 pm. Fee: $175.

BEGINNER GOLF
The U.S. Sports Institute will hold beginner golf clinics for boys and girls, Aug. 20 to 24.

• Ages 5 to 7, from 4:30 to 6 pm.
• Ages 8 to 11,  6 to 7:30 pm.
