Shelves Empty, Stores Pledge to Restock

Harried shoppers are flocking to the stores on Saturday. From PathMark, where the shelves normally filled with bottled water were empty at midday, to the Valley Street Dollar General, where flashlights were going fast, residents are preparing for Sandy. PathMark shoppers also found canned goods in shorter supply than usual. (See photos.)

ShopRite earlier on Saturday issued a statement saying the stores will restock basic supplies as long as possible.

For those who still need bottled water, local officials suggest filling containers with water from the tap now.
