Care Station Medical Group Urges Everyone to get Annual Flu Shot

Flu Vaccinations are Now Available at any of Care Station's Six New Jersey Locations

Flu season is just around the corner, and the doctors at Care Station Medical Group are here to remind everyone 6 months old and older, especially those over 60, to get their annual flu shot—and soon.

The flu is a very common and highly contagious respiratory illness, and its symptoms are known to be painful and debilitating, and can linger even after the virus is gone from your system. The active flu virus strain is always changing, which is why you need to receive a flu shot annually. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 900,000 Americans were hospitalized from the flu and its complications during the 2017-2018 flu season. In addition, an estimated 80,000 Americans died of the flu and its complications last season, making it the deadliest season in more than four decades.

“Flu season is highly unpredictable. Last year, we faced one of the longest and most severe flu seasons in recent history,” said Dr. Richard Bezozo, CEO of Care Station Medical Group. “It’s imperative that anyone that can be vaccinated does so early on, so they have the greatest chance at staying healthy this flu season, and to prevent spreading the flu to families, co-workers and friends.”

The flu virus can stay active year-round, but the “flu season” occurs in the fall and winter. The best preventative measure for the flu virus is to be vaccinated each year before the virus has taken full effect, preferably in September and early October. However, you can receive a vaccination later in the season and still benefit from its preventative measures.

“The best way to protect yourself from the flu is to get vaccinated before flu season begins,” said Dr. Bezozo. “I strongly urge you and every member of your family to get your flu shot as soon as possible.”
