Isaac Lima, 14, lost mobility from the neck down after getting severely injured in a cheerleading competition on June 29.
ROSELLE PARK, NJ — A fundraiser has been set up for a teen from Roselle Park who lost mobility from the neck down after getting severely injured in a cheerleading competition.
Isaac Lima, 14, did competitive cheerleading for an academy in his hometown and on June 29 suffered an accident while performing a stunt. His fall left him unable to move from the neck downwards, according to the GoFundMe campaign.
Lima was taken to Newark University Hospital for emergency surgery.

Doctors have predicted his chances of regaining full movement have increased from 3 to 50 percent after two procedures. He still can't move his arms and legs and will need physical rehabilitation to regain movement.
So far, just over $53,500 have been raised through the fundraiser, with a goal of $200,000.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will go towards medical bills, the cost of future procedures and physical therapy, modifications to the family's home (including wheelchair ramps and other handicap accessibilities) and specialized equipment to aid in showering.
The organizers describe Lima as energetic, kindhearted and fearless. "He’s the type of kid to try his hand at every sport possible; the more challenging, the better. The type of teammate to lift up his peers after a bad day, and encourage them when disheartened through his sweet and vibrant nature."
The family has expressed their gratitude for the donations that have been made so far.
"The kindness and support we have received from friends, family, and strangers has been absolutely incomprehensible, and we cannot express our thanks enough," a few family members said in a joint statement.
