Latke Cookoff Returns to Congregation Israel of Springfield

Winners were Ben Hoffer, Aryeh Czarka and Rafi Kigner.

The following was provided by Congregation Israel of Springfield:

How better to celebrate Chanukah than with a golden Latke—the proverbial Holiday potato pancake. Some like them with sour cream, while others prefer apple sauce as an accompaniment.

This past Saturday night, Congregation Israel of Springfield (CIS) hosted its second community –wide latke cook-off in its newly refurbished social hall.  Ten latke makers participated. The winners were the team of Ben Hoffer, Aryeh Czarka, and Rafi Kigner. Rafi age 13 was the youngest entrant. He just recently celebrated his bar mitzvah at CIS. The winners received a $100 gift certificate to Macy’s.

The 70 attendees were treated not only to delicious latkes, but also enjoyed Chanukah entertainment from a magician, and a musical program.

Chanukah would not be complete without menorah and sufganiyot (jelly donut) decorating.  CIS youth director Tzvi Yaakov Miretzky announced that Sammy Artman and Ilan Shanskalil were the menorah winners.  Enjoying the sufganiyot was its own reward!
