Jail Guard From Union Co. Gets 90 Days For Touching Inmate

Ciera Roddy, 32, of Elizabeth, touched an intimate part of an inmate at the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility for Women. authorities said.

UNION COUNTY, NJ — A former corrections officer from Union County was sentenced to 90 days in jail for touching the "intimate part" of an inmate, authorities announced.

Ciera Roddy, 32, of Elizabeth, was arrested April 5 after an investigation by the New Jersey Department of Corrections' Criminal Investigations Division, Hunterdon County acting Prosecutor Michael Williams said in a news release.

The investigation revealed that she touched "the intimate body part" of an inmate housed at the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility for Women in Clinton in Hunterdon County, Williams said.

Roddy supervised the inmate and touched the inmate "for her own gratification" in March 2018, the acting prosecutor said.

Roddy pleaded guilty on Nov. 8. Superior Court Judge Angela Borkowski sentenced Roddy to jail and probation on Friday.

Roddy must also ordered to forfeit her pension and her current, and any future, public employment in New Jersey.
