Jonathan Dayton Ranked Among Best High Schools In US

SPRINGFIELD, NJ — Jonathan Dayton High School was ranked among the best in the United States, according to US News & World Report's 2019 rankings of best high schools in the country.

The publication ranked the state's top 350 and showed where they landed among more than 20,500 public high schools in the United States.

Jonathan Dayton High School ranked at 80th in New Jersey and 1,813rd in the United States.

Union County Magnet High School ranked the highest in Union County, coming it at 8th in New Jersey and 103rd in the United States.

Here's how all of the Union County schools ranked:

• Union County Magnet High School - 8 in NJ and 103 in the U.S.
• Academy for Information Technology - 9 in NJ and 149 in the U.S.
• Elizabeth High School - 10 in NJ and 313 in the U.S.
• Academy for Allied Health Sciences - 13 in NJ and 341 in the U.S.
• Summit Senior High School - 24 in NJ and 493 in the U.S.
• Union County Tech - 36 in NJ and 713 in the U.S.
• Cranford High School - 48 in NJ and 1,096 in the U.S.
• Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School - 50 in NJ and 1,184 in the U.S.
• Westfield Senior High School - 53 in NJ and 1,225 in the U.S.
• New Providence High School - 54 in NJ and 1,292 in the U.S.
• Jonathan Dayton High School in Springfield - 80 in NJ and 1,813 in the U.S.
• Governor Livingston High School - 92 in NJ and 2,194 in the U.S.
• Plainfield Academy for the Arts and Advanced Studies - 147 in NJ and 3,981 in the U.S.
• Academy for Performing Arts - 155 in NJ and 4,295 in the U.S.
• Roselle Park High School - 189 in NJ and 5,447 in the U.S.

• David Brearley Middle/High School in Kenilworth - 338 in NJ and 12,036 in the U.S.

The factors considered in compiling the list include college readiness; reading and math proficiency; reading and math performance; underserved student performance; college curriculum breadth; and graduation rates. College readiness measures participation and performance on advanced placement and international baccalaureate exams.

U.S. News & World Report, which released its 2019 best high school rankings on Tuesday, is the gold standard for education rankings and is widely considered the global authority. Anita Narayan, managing editor of education at US News, said the aim of the rankings is to give families more information about the schools in their district.

"By evaluating more schools than ever before, the new edition expands that focus so all communities can see which schools in their area are successfully serving their students — including historically underserved populations," Narayan said in a news release.
