Men Charged With Theft After Amazon Boxes Dumped: Springfield PD

A man was charged with impersonating a police officer in a separate incident.

SPRINGFIELD, NJ — Two men were charged with theft after a resident saw someone dumping empty Amazon boxes in a recycling container, police said.

A description of the vehicle the men were in was broadcast to officers. Police found the vehicle stopped near Morris and Mountain avenues.

An on-scene investigation resulted in the driver, an 18-year-old from Roselle, being arrested and charged with theft, police said. The passenger, a 20-year-old Bayonne man, was arrested and charged with theft after detectives conducted a follow-up investigation.

Other Springfield police-related incidents from Nov. 14 to 30 are:

  • Nov. 14: A 30-year-old Middletown man was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance as a result of an investigation at the scene of a motor vehicle accident on Shunpike Road.
  • Nov. 15: A 31-year-old Hillside man was arrested and charged with impersonating a law enforcement officer after he presented a county corrections office identification badge, and he was found to not be employed by that agency.
  • Nov. 18: Officers responded to a Route 22 business on a report of someone trying to sell a stolen item to the store. A 22-year-old East Orange man was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property.
  • Nov. 20: A 28-year-old New York man was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and narcotics paraphernalia following a motor vehicle stop on Morris Turnpike.
  • Nov. 26: A 33-year-old Newark man was arrested and charged with theft after officers responded to a Route 22 business on a report of an employee falsifying transactions and returns.
