Springfield’s Specialty Sandwich To Support Breast Cancer Research
Springfield's Apple's Deli and Catering launches "Good Eats For Your Soul" by unveiling a special sandwich each month for a charity.
SPRINGFIELD, NJ — Matthew Applebaum, owner of Apple's Deli & Catering in Springfield, is offering locals a way to chow down on tasty sandwiches while helping out a local charity.
Springfield local, Applebaum, launched the “Good Eats For Your Soul” campaign at his deli on 529 South Springfield Ave. this month.
The campaign will include a specialty sandwich each month where $1 from every sale of that sandwich will be donated to a charity and also 5 percent of net proceeds during a specified time period.

For the month of October, Applebaum has created "The Figgy,” a grilled chicken, brie, fig preserves and arugula pressed sandwich. For every “Figgy” sandwich sold, $1 is being donated to Susan G Komen Foundation for Breast Cancer Research.
“We’ve already sold about 70 sandwiches so far,” Applebaum said. “Maybe I will add it to the menu permanently.”

Every time the specialty sandwich is sold, Applebaum and his crew ring a bell and make a mark on their board to keep tally.
Applebaum also donated 5 percent of all of his sales last week as well.
“People seem to like it and it’s kind of cool to make a big deal out of it,” Applebaum said of his campaign.
Applebaum opened his deli on June 1 but always stood by the motto that you always give back to get back. Following that lead he will continue his campaign throughout year.
In November Applebaum will be supporting the “Movember” movement for Prostate Cancer Awareness. He will be serving up a fried bologna sandwich on Texas Toast.
