
Visit the Summit Free Public Library from February 5-10 and participate in a range of family-friendly activities as the library celebrates the Year of the Pig! Get in the spirit of the Chinese New Year celebration, as traditional Chinese decorations adorn the Children’s Department. A dedicated team of volunteers from the community coordinated this year’s events.
Families are invited to participate in the following workshops, all focused on traditional Chinese culture:
A Taste of China, Tuesday, February 5, 7-8:30 pm: Learn how to make Chinese dumplings, sticky rice balls, and “pig-style” cookies.

Chinese Painting & Calligraphy, Wednesday, February 6, 7-8:30 pm: Participants will learn about the history of Chinese characters and witness a Chinese calligraphy demonstration. Kids will make bookmarks using calligraphy, draw their own Chinese art masterpiece, make traditional Chinese crafts, and play games.
Movie Night & Peking Opera Style Face Painting, Thursday, February 7, 7-8:30 pm: There will be a viewing of the animated feature film Havoc in Heaven, Cosplay (Monkey King & Mulan), a Peking Opera demonstration, and a photo booth. Popcorn and light refreshments will be served.

The celebration of the Year of the Pig wraps up on Sunday, February 10th at 2pm with a Chinese Culture Fair. There will be arts and crafts, food, riddles and games, a traditional Chinese outfit contest with prizes awarded, a photo booth, and, of course, the traditional Dragon parade!
