Deer Hunt Will Resume Wednesday in Summit

Summit, NJ -- The deer hunt in Union County will resume tomorrow, Jan. 27 at in six Union County parks and one municipal park.

Due to the blizzard, the fourth day of the Union County Department of Parks and Recreation’s annual Deer Management Program was rescheduled from Monday, Jan. 26 to Wednesday, Jan. 27.

The hunt will resume at:

• Watchung Reservation (Berkeley Heights, Mountainside Scotch Plains, Springfield, Summit),
• Passaic River Park (Summit portion),
• Ash Brook Reservation (Clark, Scotch Plains),
• Lenape Park and Nomahegan Park (Cranford, Kenliworth, Springfield, Union, Westfield),
• Oak Ridge Park (Clark),
• and the Hawk Rise Sanctuary (Linden).

Parks will remain open during the hunt, however, portions of some roadways inside the park may be closed for short periods if necessary.

Hunters will be in the parks from 5:30 a.m. until after dark, but shooting may occur only during daylight hours.

Park patrons are urged to stay on the marked hiking, walking and bridle trails. Park users also are urged to adhere to the County ordinance that requires that pets be restrained on a leash.

The hunt will continue on Mondays through Feb. 12, unless there is a holiday such as Martin Luther King Day or inclement weather which will move the hunt to Wednesday.
