Neat Trick For Collecting Leaves
After 25 years of raking leaves, I found a way to make it much easier!

I was doing my annual leaf roundup that normally takes 6+ hours and two or three helpers to complete and I had an idea. My grandfather Trefz was known for finding new and better ways to do ordinary things so I thought I would try something new. I usually mowing up and down and then need to empty the hopper. This takes time and only three hoppers fill a leaf bag so I ended up with a lot of bags and a sore back. Instead, I decided to try my new idea: I mowed the leaves without the hopper. It made a mess, but it cut up the leaves. A big part of the challenge of leaf collecting is that the leaves are springy and take up a lot of space. But cut leaves don't!
I think Grandfather Trefz would have lied my new trick of mowing to mulch and then mowing again to collect the now cut up leaves. The result was a complete clean up in under 3 hours and 5 very heavy bags of leaves! Not a bad idea for someone who mowed the same lawn for 25 years, but better late than never... : D
