"On Nov. 20, 2017, my family took Max home from the Somerset Regional Animal Shelter. My mother, who volunteers for the shelter, had never seen such a scared and fearful dog. She couldn't let Max tremble in the back of his cage over the Thanksgiving break, so she offered to foster him for the following week.

After several days of earning his trust, Max began to show his affection. Now, almost 8 months later, Max is part of the family. He enjoys running around the backyard with this companion Tess and is still developing his courage today."

Participating in the Pet of the Week happenings is simple: submit your nomination by emailing alexis.tarrazi@patch.com with subject line "Summit Pet Of The Week." Be sure to include a photograph or two of your pet, a paragraph about what makes him or her so great, and the town you're from. You can choose to include your name, but you don't need to. Then just keep an eye out for a photo of your pet on the Patch!

The photo can be of a present pet, or it can be a baby picture of the adult pet you're so proud of today.
