Rain Gardens Walking Tour To Celebrate Anniversary In Summit

SUMMIT, NJ — In celebration of the one year anniversary of three community rain gardens located at City Hall and the Summit Free Public Library, the Summit Environmental Commission is hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony and garden walking tour.

The celebration will be held on Oct. 4 at 3 p.m. with the garden walking tour beginning at the library rain garden on the corner of Morris Avenue and Maple Street and proceeding to the City Hall location.

Members of the community are invited to attend.

The Rutgers Water Resources Program designated Summit as a site for three demonstration rain gardens. Through a partnership with the Rahway River Watershed Association and Rutgers University, and with the support of Summit Common Council, Division of Public Works and the Summit Free Public Library Board, two rain gardens were installed at the library and one at City Hall.

The walking tour will highlight the installation of full-color interpretive signs and include explanations on the importance of stormwater management, native plant selection and design considerations. There will be an opportunity for participants to ask questions to Rutgers and Rahway River Watershed Association staff.
