SHS Wrestling Team Kicks Off Season With Strong Start

The team will compete in a quad match Saturday at Mountain Lakes with Bernards and Glen Ridge.

The Summit High School Wrestling team had an eventful winter break. The Hilltoppers defeated Dover, 43-22, on Monday, December 23, in their season opener.

Junior Brian Peck, at 138 lbs., was the wrestler of the match.

On Saturday. December 28, the team competed in the Rahway Holiday Tournament. The team had five wrestlers place in the top three. Tournament champions included senior Nick Testa at 132 lbs. and Phil Angelo at 113 lbs. Danny Petrella placed second in the heavyweight class and Colm Dougherty (170 lbs.) and Corey Golden (106 lbs.) each placed third.

The team will compete in a quad match Saturday at Mountain Lakes with Bernards and Glen Ridge.

With a varsity line up consisting of five freshmen, the team looks strong and ready for intense competition.
