Summit Artist Draws Inspiration from Cicadas

Marguerite Brennan has been recreating the bugs with students in clay.

Summit resident and artist Marguerite Brennan has drawn the kind of inspiration that only comes once every 17 years.

The Kent Place Boulevard resident has been capturing images of cicadas on her camera and turning the Brood II creatures into clay sculptures, according to a piece in the Independent Press.

Brennan runs an after-school clay art class for children ages 5 to 8 where they've been making cicada replicas in clay. Brennan told the Independent Press that her students were initially afraid of the insects, but quickly got over their fears and onto making art.
