Summit Cop Adopts Kitten He Saved From Under Truck
Miracle's long ride on the undercarriage of the truck ended in a new forever home.
SUMMIT, NJ - When Summit Police Officer Colin Scarpello responded to an animal assist call last month he didn't know he would be soon be looking at his future housemate.
But that is exactly what happened, as Carpello has adopted the kitten, dubbed "Miracle," after he helped rescue her from the undercarriage of a truck that had travelled more than 30 miles at speeds nearing 70 miles an hour.
It all started June 25 when Scarpello and Officer Leonard Franchino were dispatched to Route 24 for an animal assist call. They were greeted by a truck driver who was flagged down by a passing motorist regarding a small kitten that had been squirreled away in the undercarriage of the trailer.

Scarpello and Franchino were able to get the kitten into a box and transport her to a local animal hospital to receive medical treatment and a checkup. According to the Morristown Animal Hospital and 911 Dog and Cat Rescue Miracle was approximately six weeks old and was covered in fleas and hot grease.
But soon after getting cleaned up, Samantha Judson at 911 Dog and Cat Rescue told Patch that Miracle was doing well.

"She is a healthy kitten," she said.
Judson said that Miracle would be in a foster home for a couple weeks and then put up for adoption.
"But we already have some interest from people wanting to adopt," she said.
And one of those people was Scarpello.
911 Dog and Cat Rescue posted a photo of the dynamic duo reunited before Scarpello took her home.
"We love this story and the happy outcome," they said.
