Summit Expands Commuter Ridesharing Program
Summit residents with prepaid parking permits are eligible for free rides to and from the train station or a place of employment downtown.

SUMMIT, NJ - The City of Summit is attempting to further alleviate commuting congestion by expanding their ridesharing program for residents and downtown employees.
Effective Nov. 20, the City of Summit expanded the open slots from 250 to 300 participants. The program, the first of its kind in New Jersey, was implemented in October 2016 and has been successful in helping to alleviate parking congestion in municipal parking lots and garages near the NJ Transit Summit Station, officials said.
Under the city’s program, Summit residents with prepaid parking permits are eligible for free rides to and from the train station or a place of employment in the downtown during weekday commuting hours; residents without prepaid permits will be eligible for $2 rides, which is equivalent to the cost of the city’s $4 daily parking. Trips must begin or end within Summit and be completed Monday through Friday between the hours of 5 a.m. and 11 p.m.
