SUMMIT, NJ — Among the burglaries in Summit reported to police in May, some were high-stakes. Here are the notable crimes from a summary of reports provided by the Summit police:

May 16: At 7:48 a.m., someone reported that a blue 2003 F25 truck was stolen from Canoe Brook Parkway. The victim said the incident occurred between May 13 and May 16. The truck valued at $13,000, the victim said.

May 17: At 7:13 p.m., a report was taken for a burglary at an Orchard Street residence. The victim stated the incident occurred between 6:30 a.m. and 7:15 p.m. The person entered through an unsecured window and took $1,200 cash, the victim said.

May 19: Officers responded at 1:51 a.m. to a burglary alarm at a Summit Avenue business. Police saw broken glass in the door. The business owner said $1,500 was taken.

May 21: Someone reported a theft to a business on Overlook Road. The victim said the incident had occurred on April 15, and that $500 cash was taken.

May 22: Someone reported the theft of a bicycle worth $650 from a Weaver Street residence between May 17 and that date. The bike was a Trek Marlin 21-speed women's mountain bike.

May 23: Someone swiped 17 tubes of Crest toothpaste from a business, but returned them. READ MORE: Brush With The Law in Summit

May 23: A resident of Chestnut Avenue told police that a theft had occurred there some time between April 28 and May 19. The items reported stolen were:

  • $5,000 cash
  • Three diamond rings
  • Collectible coins

The last two items were worth a total of $16,000, the victim said.

May 24: Someone told police about observing two men walk toward an unlocked vehicle on Fay Place and rifle through its glove compartment looking for a key. Then the men left. Nothing was taken, police said.
